I could end up by writing a book about John Gamil and his contribution in making our holiday in Egypt a truly magnificent one that I just cant shake out of my head, but it would take me a week to write. Just accept the fact that you would have to search for a long time to find another guide who was as passionate about his country as John is. His desire to ensure that the people with him are looked after goes above and beyond the call of duty. Thanks to him we had a amazing holiday.

In 2007, I was fortunate to book a Nile cruise and have John G as my guide. We were shown all the major, important, OOOOhhhh AHHhhhhh sites and John knew so much about each of them. Adding to the experience was his friendliness, interest in each of our needs, and, frankly, excellent English (I know people are concerned about that). I stayed in touch with John this whole time as I have recommended him to others heading to the Land of the Pharaohs.

John accompanied me during a Nile cruise and I learned a lot during this tour. He shares the information well, and his English is excellent. He also gave me enough time to explore the areas we went to. He also talked with some locals in the area for us to be able to access areas less visited by tourists. Flexibility is also important during travels and John was able to accommodate changes I wanted with the schedule, finding a van which eventually brought me to Abu Simbel. He also assisted me in making wise purchases as there are so many things available and several merchants around. Ask John and he will provide. Overall, a great experience and makes me want to go back to see more in Egypt someday.

In the first week of February 2020 I was part of a small group which was guided by John G G on an Emilio cruise from Luxor to Aswan and back. He was very knowledgeable about the various sites, the temples and the tombs that we visited. He was well prepared and carried out his duties efficiently. He was also kind and considerate which was appreciated by me, the oldest member of the group. I was also grateful that he lent me his mobile so that I could take some pictures inside Queen Nefetari’s Tomb which he has subsequently e-mailed to me. Overall he made a great contribution to a wonderful holiday.

We were 4 friends visiting Egypt in 2010. John was wonderful organizing our trip from the cruise ship. He took us to Hurgada where we stayed in a private villa. Then he hired a mini-bus to take us all to Luxor where we took a Nile trip in a felucca, and visited Karnak. He even organized some jewelry to be made for me, overnight. He had everything so organized in such a short stop over. John looked after us very well.

John was the tour guide on a 4 day cruise I was on between Aswan and Luxor. He had the most extensive knowledge of the sites and history of ancient Egypt. He was always very professional and patient when we asked questions and gave us great tips and ideas about what to do during our free time. Apart from his near perfect English and professionalism, John has a deep passion for his country and its history and wants to share this knowledge with people, which is why he makes the perfect guide and one that I would wholly recommend.

I can’t say enough about my tour guide John. He explained so much while we covered the East & West banks of Luxor. There were questions that I had just about all things Egyptian antiquities and he gave thorough and detailed answers on everything. I would strongly recommend him because he gave me excellent service, years of experience and even more years of knowledge to which he had studies. Not to mention, dinner if the best restaurants in the area. Without question after a tour with John, you will come away from his tour very fulfilled and fortunate that you learned so much!! Thank you very much John, I look forward to my return trip.

John is an amazing guide. He is easy going and knows everything about Egyptian history. We couldn’t have imagined getting a better Sherpas for our tour through Egypt.

John was one of our guides during our Nile Cruise and by far our favorite. He was prompt, professional, knowledgeable, relatable, honest, and his English was impeccable (later we found out he spent time in the states). My dad, mom, sister and I were all visiting from the US for my dad’s bucket list adventure and John took good care of us. In fact, John was such a good guide he worked overtime trying to get our “bigger name” tour company to pull it together! This tour company gave us the runaround and we thanked our lucky stars John was there to help coordinate. Simply put, he was a great guide - generous with his time even in a time crunch - taking us to the Valley of the Kings and making sure everything was set-up. This is one of the most visited sites in Egypt so, it’s a bit of a nuthouse (even early) but John made it seamless for us. So glad we were able to have him for my Dad’s favorite part of the trip!

John is an excellent guide and Egyptologist. His vast knowledge was shared with pride and enthusiasm. He was very accommodating to our wants and needs. He knew where to purchase desired items and found us authentic eateries. He lived in the US for over ten years working as an Egyptologist and his fluidity of the English language is superb. My sister and I are in our 60’s and always felt very safe. If anyone I know travels to Egypt I will be sending them with John. I fully recommend John as a tour guide. We spent a week on a cruise down the Nile from Luxor to the Aswan dam and back during Christmas & New Year 2022 and he took our family to one or two tourist attractions each day. He has so much knowledge to share including lots of things that you would never know from a guide book, he always has a smile and nothing was too much trouble. His English is amazing, he has a great sense of humour and he is truly passionate about the ancient Egyptians, their skills and legacy. He shared his knowledge in such a way to keep both the older generations and teenagers within our group entertained and engaged and made a point of getting to know us all. He is a true 10 out of 10 and a genuinely lovely person. Don’t wait around – book him for your tour guide.
